Joli Blon

Joli Blon

Joli Blon, who take their name from a much loved Cajun waltz, play traditional dance music from Louisiana: a riotous mix of red-hot accordion, rip-roaring fiddle and gutsy, driving guitar. Stomping, hypnotic two-steps, mournful waltzes telling of heartache and despair so sad they make you happy, and a bit of blues - all sung in Cajun French. The music is uplifting and infectiously danceable – bringing audiences of all ages up on their feet and onto the dance floor.

Line up for Awamu Together 2020:
Lucy Vines – vocals, Cajun accordion
Fliss Premru – vocals, fiddle
Miriam Hogan – vocals, acoustic guitar
Carol Wilson – drums

Guey

Guey

A music nerd pretty much all his life, Stuart's been sporadically DJing for whispers thirty five years.

From dodgy raves to The Big Chill; and for the last dozen or so years has been spreading/inflicting his musical taste via a monthly show on the wonderful Purple Radio.

Sometimes back room wonkiness, sometimes chill out lushness, sometimes grubby bangers; and a fair few shades in between.

So, whatever time of day, or state of mind, he'll provide the tunes that make you go "WTF", "Ahhhh", or "YEESSSSSS!!!"

Bambam Sound

Bambam Sound

Described by the late great DJ Derek as "the Ant & Dec of reggae". Described by intercontinental techno big dawg Jon Hopkins as "the Cannon & Ball of dubstep". Described by themselves variously as "beats and bass", "Acid House Carnival", and "a pair of wannabe rude boys from the home counties". Johnny Clash and Duck aka Bam Bam Sound currently reside in sunny south-east London and broadcast on Purple Radio.

Digger

Digger

It’s hard to put a label on the sounds she plays – you’d tend to file it under ‘lush’ or ‘cheeky’ – but there’s always a funky bass line somewhere, no matter how soft and melodic or hard and driving the track.

Usually, it’s all about lots of sumptuous glitzy glamorous disco electro upbeat downbeat tunes for dancing to slinkily. Make of that what you will.

With an inimitable knack of putting on the right record at just the right time, Digger is a party favourite. And when all the music’s been played, she’ll make you a nice cup of tea.

Robot Riddims

Robot Riddims

Imagining a post apocalyptic future where robots are forced to improvise soundsystem music on whatever ageing musical technology still functions, Robot Riddims combines the power of live Dub mixing with DIY synths, the Commodore 64’s SID chip and crunchy 8 bit drums to bring a performance that is “Strictly Lo-Fi for your Hi-Fi”.
